Welcome!

Living Word Presbyterian Church is an independent church plant in Harrisonville, Missouri. We hold to the reformed tradition and Christian principles as explained in the Three Forms of Unity (the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dordt.) We embrace the Apostles' Creed as the perfect encapsulation of the essentials of our faith. Above all, we believe that the Bible is the living Word of God that is "...profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work" (1Peter 3:16-17). Therefore it is our conviction that the Bible is absolutely relevant and necessary for Christians of all ages to experience a vibrant, productive and God-pleasing life, irrespective of life circumstances.

Our Mission
It is our goal to bring honor and glory to God Most High by emulating His Only Begotten Son "...to proclaim good news to the poor... to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor” (Luke 4:18,19; Isaiah 61:1,2). To this end we seek to equip believers with the knowledge of Scriptures, to be "prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks [them] for a reason for the hope that is in [them]; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when [they] are slandered, those who revile [their] good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil" (1Peter 3:15-17). We are confident that well-equipped Christians will produce good works for which they were created (Ephesians 2:10).

The Preaching of the Word
We believe that the entire 66 volumes of the Bible originated from the mind and will of God Almighty and "...that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit" (1Peter 1:20). Each volume has a definite purpose/message as does each section/chapter therein, as God spoke through the prophet Isaiah: "so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it" (55:11). In light of this, not withstanding special occasions and holy days, we preach each volume of the Bible in its entirety, using Scripture to interpret Scripture, to fully explain the mind of God. We also preach topically through the 52 Lord's days of the Heidelberg Catechism to fully instruct the congregation in matters of doctrine of the Christian Faith.
We believe in the centrality of the preaching of the Word in the worship service. We believe that when the preacher faithfully expounds the Word of God, Christ speaks from the pulpit. Therefore all activities prior to the sermon should serve to prepare the heart and mind of the congregation to hear Christ their Lord.
